These product-specific terms cover your use of the I Hate Reading app. They supplement the company-wide Terms of Use for True North Originals, LLC ("True North Originals," "we," "us," or "our"). Where the two conflict for I Hate Reading specifically, these terms control. By installing or using the app, you agree to both.
If you do not agree, please delete the app.
1. A parent or guardian sets this up
I Hate Reading is a reading app for children, intended to be installed and supervised by a parent or guardian. By installing the app, making a purchase, or letting a child use it, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and the parent or legal guardian of the child who will use it, and that you accept these terms on the child's behalf. You are responsible for supervising your child's use of the app.
2. Your license
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use I Hate Reading on Apple devices you own or control, in accordance with the App Store Usage Rules. You may not resell, redistribute, rent, reverse-engineer, or build a competing product from the app.
3. Free stories and subscription
I Hate Reading lets you create a limited number of stories for free. To create unlimited new stories, you can buy an auto-renewable subscription:
- Monthly — US$9.99 per month, or
- Yearly — US$79.99 per year.
Prices may vary by region and are shown in the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically for the same period and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription any time in your device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Reading, re-reading, and printing stories you have already made remains available without a subscription.
4. AI-generated stories and content safety
Stories and cover illustrations are generated by artificial intelligence from the idea your child provides. We apply multiple safety filters to both the child's prompt and the generated text so the app is designed not to produce content that is inappropriate for children. No automated filter is perfect, however, and we cannot guarantee that generated content will always meet every family's expectations. We recommend that a parent or guardian stay involved, and we ask that you contact us if anything the app produces concerns you so we can improve the safeguards. Generated stories are works of fiction and are for entertainment and reading practice; they are not factual references.
5. The stories your child makes
The stories your child creates are yours to keep, read, print, and share for personal, non-commercial family use. To create them, you grant us permission to process the story prompt as described in the Privacy Policy. We do not claim ownership of your child's ideas, and we do not publish or share your child's stories.
6. Acceptable use
- Use the app only for its intended purpose — a child creating and reading her own stories.
- Do not attempt to bypass the content-safety features or use the app to generate inappropriate material.
- Do not attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the app or our generation service.
- Do not use the app in a way that violates any law.
7. Purchases and refunds
Payment, billing, and refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's terms. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, request it through the App Store: reportaproblem.apple.com. We do not process refunds directly.
8. No warranty
I HATE READING IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND — EXPRESS OR IMPLIED — INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY GENERATED STORY WILL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS. THE APP IS A READING-PRACTICE AID, NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR PROFESSIONAL EDUCATIONAL OR CLINICAL INSTRUCTION.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, TRUE NORTH ORIGINALS, LLC IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF I HATE READING. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE APP IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR IT IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM.
10. Apple App Store terms
These terms are between you and True North Originals, LLC — not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them. To the extent these terms provide a license consistent with the App Store Usage Rules, that license governs. Any maintenance, support, warranty, product-liability, or legal claims regarding the app are our responsibility, not Apple's, as permitted by law.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app evolves. If we make a material change, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, surface a notice in the app on your next launch. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where True North Originals, LLC is registered, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in that state.
